The first time I met Kurtis (that's what we called him, even though it wasn't really his name) was at a Denny's. Brad and I were at the table next to him and we struck up a conversation. After the basic introductions, we moved straight on to a philospohical discussion about Carl Jung. I have no idea anymore what conclusions we came to, or how long we even stayed on that topic, but I remember being instantly fascinated with his intelligence and unique personality.

I also remember he lied about his age because he thought we were going to ask him to buy us beer. :) We were friends right away and for the next two years I saw him at least every other day. He asked me many times if I ever ate anything other than potatoes. I didn't.

I got married and we grew apart, but I would still see him from time to time because he was always very close to my best friend, Virginia. Every time I saw him, it was as if no time had passed at all.

He was a core character in my circle of friends, and we all have always had so much love for him. I wonder now if I did my part in letting him know how very loved he was. He is impossible to forget, and I will hold so many memories of him in my heart forever.
